Will the M’s stay dry in Baltimore this weekend?
As the P.I. points out, and the forecast from the Weather Channel confirms, some wild and woolly weather is awaiting the Mariners as they make their only trek to Baltimore this season. Thunderstorms are called for tonight and tomorrow, but with clouds called for Sunday and just a “few” showers for Monday, there is an outside chance that the first two games of the series will be rained out, to be made up in back-to-back doubleheaders.
While that is not an ideal situation, it is sure preferable to repeating last year’s debacle, when four games at Cleveland were snowed out, and had to be made up on the teams’ “off” days, forcing the M’s to play 36 games in 37 days. According to Miguel Batista, this threw control pitchers Jeff Weaver and Horacio Ramirez off their games, resulting in their horrid start last season. (And an all around horrid year in Ramirez’s case.)
Oh well. If the game is called tonight, then the exciting match-up between Jarrod Washburn and Steve Trachsel, who had his start pushed back due to the rain-out of the Orioles-Rays finale. Trachsel, by the way, has dropped all four of his career decisions against the M’s, with an ERA a notch below 7.00. With the rain out allowing the Mariners to face the veteran right-hander that they have pwned, it’s yet another example of the schedule gods smiling upon our beloved M’s. Woot!
